Midia Sub-county, Uganda – Masterseed Uganda, with the generous support of the Haella Foundation, recently hosted a transformative event aimed at empowering the youth and women of Midia Sub-county, Koboko Municipality, Uganda with life skills and entrepreneurship training.
The event saw active participation from various community members and leaders, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing pressing social issues and promoting sustainable development.
Tackling Key Social Issues
A significant portion of the event focused on critical issues affecting the community. A youth representative delivered a poignant presentation on the rampant substance abuse problem among the local youth, highlighting the urgent need for intervention and support. This was followed by an engaging group discussion, facilitated by Gala Winfred, where participants exchanged ideas on addressing these challenges.

In another impactful presentation, the Midia Sub-county Community Development Officer shed light on the gender gaps prevalent in the area.
Citing alarming statistics from the Daily Monitor (February 23, 2024), she revealed that over 13,000 children were defiled in Uganda, with 300 contracting HIV, including a nine-year-old in Arua.
These figures underscore the critical need for focused efforts to protect children and promote gender equality in the Sub County of Midia which is found in Koboko Municipality.
The AGENDA Project and Masterseed Initiatives
Mrs. Amaniru Jovia, Project Officer at Masterseed and a passionate advocate for youth and women's affairs, provided insights into the AGENDA Project. This initiative is designed to equip young people and women with essential skills for personal and professional growth, fostering resilience and self-reliance.
Representatives from selected groups underwent comprehensive training as part of the AGENDA Project, equipping them with tools to drive change within their communities. Mrs. Amaniru emphasized the importance of these initiatives, noting their potential to transform lives and create a ripple effect of positive change throughout Midia Sub-county.

Community Leadership and Support
The event also featured remarks from the Midia Sub-county Local Council III, who urged the newly trained youth and women to embrace change and become catalysts for development. His call to action resonated with the attendees, reinforcing the importance of community involvement and leadership in driving social progress.
Masterseed's dedicated team, including the accountant, project officer, and executive director, all donned army green T-shirts, symbolizing their unity and commitment to the cause.
